CUYS Helps Increase Access to Sports by Volunteering at “Leveling the Playing Field” Warehouse

In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s legacy, CUYS volunteers spent “a day on, not a day off,” giving time to the community by helping to inventory and sort donated sports equipment at Leveling the Playing Field’s new facility in Sharon Hill, PA.

Leveling the Playing Field was founded in 2013 in response to the growing inequity between those that can afford to play sports and those that cannot, and the prominent role the cost of sporting goods was playing in that gap.

The facility collects and redistributes equipment for of softball, baseball, soccer, lacrosse, football, martial arts, golf and other sports, as well as general playground fun. Volunteers help make it possible for dozens of teams to access equipment at no charge.

The organization recently opened its Philadelphia area warehouse after successfully establishing itself in communities in Washington, DC and Baltimore. To learn more about donating or receiving goods, and about volunteering, visit Philadelphia, PA - Leveling the Playing Field.
